How to save and reduce fuel consumption?

Fuel prices, especially in recent months, we can safely say, are going wild. Every few days we receive news about a new price increase. The government says that they are doing everything to stop it, people are waiting, but they cannot wait for the results of these 'efforts'... It's as if we are in a vicious circle.

That is why we have prepared for you ten simple tips on how you can reduce fuel consumption without driving any less than usual

1. Watch the tire pressure

Tire pressure is a very important item, so check it regularly and stick to the prescribed level. What is more important, you will save 5% on fuel. Tires with too low pressure cause more consumption because they have more rolling resistance.

2. Replace consumables regularly

Regularly change consumable parts of the car. Change the engine oil regularly. Old parts will more likely increase fuel consumption. Car maintenance can save as much as four percent of fuel.

3. Idling consumes fuel

Turn off the engine if you see that you will be standing somewhere for longer than a minute, for example in front of a traffic light in larger columns. This way, you will save more fuel because the car, even though it is stationary, also consumes fuel when idling.

4. Try to avoid heating/cooling in the car

If you are driving a short distance, do not turn on the heating in the car. Distance will be too short, and when it warms up, you’ll be at your destination. On longer distances, keep the heating at lower temperatures. Heating will increase your consumption. The same applies to cooling.

5. Bad tires use more fuel

Choose quality tires. Although they are more expensive, it is worth it in the long run because the tires have an impact on the movement of the car. Bad tires will cause difficult movement on the asphalt, the car can consume more because it needs more energy to move.

6. Remove the bracket from the roof

The roof rack can your consumption, so if you have it, you can remove it when you don’t need it. In this way, the car will be more aerodynamic. Try not to open the windows at a speed that is more than 50 km/h. That will create resistance which will spend more fuel.

7. Do not fill the tank to the top

A lighter car will use less fuel because in this way it will need less force to move. See if you have many things in or on the vehicle that you don't really need to take with you every day. Remove everything unnecessary, because, with every kilogram you remove, you will save on fuel consumption.

8. Watch the engine revolutions

Reduce speed. For example, the ideal speed for saving is between 75 and 90 km/h with the gearbox set to fifth gear. Make sure your engine revs are at 2000 for diesel cars or 2500 for gasoline engines.

9. Accelerations consume 20 percent more

Drive more calmly with as little braking and acceleration as possible, because sudden accelerations consume more than 20 percent of fuel compared to more calm driving. Look at the road, and let the gas before braking. When you start off, step on the gas slowly.

10. Use the cruise control to maintain your speed

Cruise control is a handy thing when it comes to saving money. But this is only true on a straight road or downhill. Do not use it on a hill, as it increases fuel consumption.
