Why do manufacturers release new phones every year - with almost no changes?
Every year, we see new models of phones popping up in the market and it can be exhausting. These phones usually don't come with massive upgrades and changes, but just minor changes in performance, battery or camera that seem so irrelevant. So, what do manufacturers get from it.
Manufacturers are actually just trying to keep things interesting with the new offers for phones as frequently as possible. It motivates people to buy new devices as they are constantly flashed with new commercials for new and better devices, making them feel outdated.
Not only that but many manufacturers are constantly competing against each other to win new customers and get them on their side. Big companies such as Samsung and Apple are also examples of this constant race, while other Android manufacturers are keeping battles of their own.
Simply put, launching more products means more profit for them. However, constantly launching new products introduces quite serious problems that plague the Android ecosystem. The updates might be slower as manufacturers tend to add their customized skins on top of them, which does ad din functionality and support for devices in their respective ecosystem, but still slows it down.
In general, it's great for us as buyers to have so many options when buying a new phone but it does create a mess. However, the rising prices lately have motivated people to hold onto their phones longer and longer. Now, we only have to wait and see how long will the trend last.
